After consultation with our label experts where the pros and cons of our extensive portfolio of environmentally sustainable label materials were considered, Chantal Organics selected Stone Paper (branded Rockstock). This was the ideal choice for Chantal Organics to support the environment and achieve the sustainability goals at the heart of their company.

Part of the criteria was to use a label material that consumers could remove relatively easily after use for repurposing or recycling the jar. We advised that by pouring hot water into the used jar, the adhesive would soften enough to allow the label to be removed. As Stone Paper is waterproof, the label can be removed in one piece. This was one of the key reasons the Stone Paper was preferred over our paper based environmental options.

Stone Paper is a white, matt, tree-free paper made from stone; specifically ground down waste limestone and offcuts from the building industry. It is produced without the use of water and with minimal energy. The material is photodegradable, reverting to calcium carbonate in extended sunshine with the resin absorbed by the atmosphere without harmful effects. It’s not classed as biodegradable because it doesn’t attract bacteria or organisms to break it down.

And of course, our digital inks are certified for both home and industrial compostable making sure that when the label does breakdown, the inks will not have a negative effect on the environment.
