Case Study: Transforming Sutton’s Farm apple juice labels
Hally Labels recently worked with Sutton’s Farm on a bold new label design to deliver improved branding and shelf appeal.
Sutton’s Farm is a family-run apple orchard based just out of Stanthorpe, Queensland. Their boutique business incorporates a juice factory, cidery, distillery and café - it’s well worth a visit! Sutton’s were keen to increase the brand presence and shelf appeal of their bottled apple juice range, which is sold in independent stores throughout Australia. Manuel Rooney, one of our label experts, saw immediate opportunities for improvement.
Challenge
Sutton’s Farm offer eight varieties of their mouth-watering apple juice, all of which are pressed, bottled and labelled on-site. All eight juices were labelled with one generic base label and a small secondary label was hand applied to distinguish the juice variety. This additional process was time consuming and made identifying each variety difficult.
Solution
We jumped at the chance to work with David Sutton to help create individual identities for each of his apple juice varieties. Manuel identified several ways to achieve this, by:
- updating the label design,
- modifying the label size, and
- optimising print efficiencies.
We chose a new label material which was better suited to the application conditions, and also recommended a new label size to create additional space. Our in-house prepress team then got to work updating the label artwork. A different background colour was used to signify each of the apple juice varieties; pink for pink lady, green for granny smith, orange for apple with ginger and so on. The specific variety name was also prominently added.
Early on we identified that the benefits of our digital printing technology were well suited to this project. Digital is ideal for printing short runs and multiple varieties; preparation costs are reduced and flexibility is offered. Our HP Indigo press ensured excellent print quality and the bright, vibrant colours that the design required.
Result
Our client also decided it was a great time to update the bottle and lid which gave the product a complete facelift. The fresh new packaging has been very well received by customers. It has successfully helped Sutton’s Farm to create hype and positive consumer engagement and to drive sales. Plus the different varieties are much easier to identify on the shelf; for both staff and customers.
We are now looking forward to working with David and his team on their new apple cider design, some condiments and sauces and an apple brandy label in the future!
